Do mainstream followers of islam think they are being acurately represented by their peers that are criminals?

I am sure there must be good people that follow Islam. I find it hard to believe that an entire religion would support members that are murderers, kidnappers, terrorists and rapists. But when I read responses on this website it would seem that the bad people who claim Islam as their religion are of greater number than the good people. Just look at the responses by these people to questions like this one. You can bet the hostile paranoid remarks will greatly outnumber any others. It seems that hatred and racism is the order of the day for these people. I am sure that this question will be answered with personal attacks instead of an attempt of explanation and understanding. These tactics mostly resemble another religion of criminals. The Arian Church of God, or better known as the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK also uses hatred, murder, terrorism and other criminal acts against any who disagree with them. Are these two groups affiliated? What is the world to think of this?
